Book Reviews

“Gordon creates an incredibly plausible scenario in which a down-to-earth, regular "man's man" like Ed Gilbert can be right at home fighting seedy criminals on the high seas and enjoying a life of luxury. The author successfully weaves together the storylines of Mafia-style criminals, brainwashed cult members, humanitarian aid workers, wealthy socialites, and dedicated firemen. Caribbean Calling would definitely make a fun vacation read because the breezy characters are incredibly intriguing and keep the reader interested without a lot of filler. Hopefully, Gordon will continue the Eddie Gilbert saga, as he seems to have found his calling as an author as Gilbert finds his calling as a hero.”                                                                                         ~

“J.D. Gordon, a firefighter paramedic wraps emergency medicine with action adventure. I could not help but picture the author as his own hero jaunting from Chicago to Florida and through the Caribbean . He uses his medical expertise to pepper just enough jargon to not bore the non medical person yet keep the action alive and stimulating. A fun, although slightly predictable read. Caribbean Calling can be read in a single sitting and is worth the read. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 4.7.”

“The story takes a while to get into third gear, but once it does, it moves fast and furiously to the penultimate chapter.  One could wish for a better representation of Australian and Islander colloquial speech, but adventure fans will probably forgive that in the adrenaline rush of flying bullets and exploding grenades.”

“The writing and the characters are all entertaining and fine. I was just disappointed that the    set-up took longer than the actual action of the story. This wouldn't keep me from reading more, because in the end, Eddie decides to stay in Key West, and we know that there will be more adventures. The fact that he takes a job as a fireman there instead of staying with the gopher job that paid really well, holds great promise. I'm willing to give him another try.”
